Mark Thompson
CEO

As Dialog’s CEO, Mark brings more than 25 years of deep experience as a marketer and general manager. Mark has been a Vice President and General Manager at Ameritech – now part of AT&T, Dell and Microsoft. Having been a senior executive at leading hardware, software and telecommunications companies, Mark has an exceptionally well-rounded view of marketing, ecosystem management and the nature of the way technology is shaping our world.

Mark worked in health care early in his career at the Boston Consulting Group where he encountered early end-to-end patient management thinking and helped to structure a relationship between Mayo clinic and a new PPO provider.

Mark is skilled at identifying adjacent markets for business growth. As a corporate development executive, he has created over $1B in new venture revenue via acquisitions and alliances. Notably among these was Ameritech’s entry into the field of security monitoring which resulted in Ameritech becoming the number two player in that industry.

As Vice President of Marketing for Dell’s Small and Medium Business division, Mark was responsible for over $8B in revenue and a $350M marketing budget. During his tenure he and his team reduced marketing cost per unit sold by more than 50% while nearly doubling share and improving brand perception. He also created Dell’s Solution Provider Direct program which the Wall Street Journal called “a beautiful strategy.”

As a GM he has led multi-billion dollar business units with thousands of employees including Dell’s US Consumer Systems business and served as CEO of Supercircuits, a Carlyle Group portfolio company which was twice named to Inc. Magazine’s list of fastest growing companies in America. As SVP of marketing with Ameritech, Mark was one of a team of a dozen expatriates who turned a $4B stake in newly privatized European telco Teledanmark into $10B. As a result, he is intimately familiar with successfully managing organizational change at small and large scale.

He recently completed an interim assignment as the Chief Marketing Officer for Denon & Marantz (a Bain Capital portfolio company) where he created a digital campaign that took Denon from the 5th to 2nd most talked about brand online and created a community of 65,000 fans in 100 days.

Originally from Zimbabwe, Mark has an undergraduate degree with Highest Distinction from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from Wharton. He has been recognized by B to B Magazine as one of the top 15 Direct Marketers in the US.

Bob Gutermuth
President & Founder

Recognized by Business-to-Business Magazine as one of the top fifteen Direct Marketers in the United States, Bob Gutermuth founded Dialog in 2005 with a disruptive model that combined top tier consulting together with digital agency execution.

Bob  is a fourteen-year veteran of Dell, Inc and served as an Executive Director in Dell’s Public Sector Division – a $9 billion division focused on serving Education, Government, and Healthcare Customers. In this role he led the marketing strategy teams, eMarketing team and marketing communications teams’ Direct Marketing efforts. His team held responsibilities for business planning, developing market expertise, database marketing and building programs that increase Dell’s value proposition and enhance customer relationships. Bob’s team was recognized nationally as providing best in class strategies for creating customer relationships while driving industry leading ROI.

Billy Edwards
Chief Strategy Officer

Billy’s curiosity and passion for helping, has lead him to repeatedly and successfully tackle tough business, technology and innovation challenges for companies, large and small. His efforts have ranged from starting companies to driving business turn-arounds, all drawing upon his unique insights, wide experience and deep set of skills.

Over the years Billy has been involved with numerous starts-ups: as a founder, investor, advisor and board member. Examples include: SAAS patent management (Innography), ARM-based microprocessor design (Rational Semiconductor), NMES knee-rehab medical device (Articulate Labs), electron beam lithography (eBeam Devices) and ophthalmic surgical devices (Vxtra).

At AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) Billy had the dual responsibilities of Chief Strategy Officer for the corporation and establishing and leading the new embedded processor business division. Billy was instrumental in creating and driving a strategic plan, which spanned the introduction of 64bit computing to the PC industry, acquisitions (i.e. ATI, Alchemy, Geode) and spinning off the memory products business and manufacturing assets.

While at Motorola, Billy had two different assignments. In Schaumburg he drove strategy, M&A and partnerships globally for Motorola. In Austin, Billy was part of a new Executive Team tasked with turning around the $8B Semiconductor Products Sector (subsequently Freescale, now NXP). In addition to the sector’s strategy, Billy led the realignment of technology sharing, M&A efforts and the management of IT and government relations.

Billy began his career with The Boston Consulting Group (“BCG”), where he worked across North America, Europe and Asia. During his 9+ years with BCG, he worked with a broad range of clients in the Technology, Medical Equipment, Health Care, Industrial Manufacturing and Consumer Products sectors.

Dr. Edwards attended Vanderbilt University graduating with bachelor degrees in BioMedical Engineering and Materials Science Engineering. He also received Masters and Doctoral degrees in Materials Science Engineering from Vanderbilt. While with BCG in Chicago, Billy also attended the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Billy holds numerous US patents and is an accomplished software architect and programmer. He has served on company boards and many years on Vanderbilt University School of Engineering’s Board of Visitors.

Cherie Cox
Chief Integration Officer

Cherie was most recently the CEO of Young & Rubicam (Y&R) Austin, as part of WPP which is the largest, global marketing network in the world and served on the North America leadership team for Y&R. Her team led some of the most successful B2B and technology clients in the world to success including Dell, AMD, Samsung, Hewlett-Packard, VMware, McLane, Sybase, Red Hat, 3M, Freescale and many others.  Her expertise is in global branding and execution, go-to-market planning, lead generation, digital marketing and sales enablement.

Having been nationally recognized as a top leader in creating an award-winning culture, Cherie thrives on inspiring client partners and co-workers to work as one team with a common vision on delivering successful business results. This focus is in complete alignment with Dialog’s strengths regarding network design, which makes her a complimentary partner to the team. She has led teams to win both marketing effectiveness and creativity awards throughout her career and has been associated with delivering on some of the best campaigns from a tangible, results-driven perspective for many of her clients over the years.

Cherie previously served as the Chair of the Board for the Southwest division of the 4 A’s (American Association of Advertising Agencies), as well as having served on the Board for Austin Community College.  She holds a BA in Journalism with a minor in Psychology from Texas State University.

Bob Linderman
Managing Director

Bob has had the good fortune of a successful career building strong relationships with thought leaders and leading corporations through the sale and delivery of step-level operational and financial improvement projects with incredible clients over the past 30 years. His career initially began with IBM sales and marketing where he was consistently recognized through sales and  performance awards. As a result, Bob moved through the IBM management ranks where he gained marketing and general management experience.

Bob migrated into consulting in 1989 with Gemini Consulting where he and partners developed a sales and delivery process that enabled clients to achieve step-level change rapidly. A few of his early successes were with Abbott Labs, Baxter, NCR and Bethlehem Steel.

Bob saw the opportunity of changing the way business was constructed when he was recruited by Jim Champy at CSC Index to run the mid-west in late 1991. Index introduced Reengineering through the seminal best seller “Reengineering the Corporation” authored by Champy and Michael Hammer. In that role he was privileged to work with thought-leaders such as Peter Drucker, Michael Porter, Michael Tracey, and Robert Kaplan, to name a few. He was involved with dozens of successful reengineering engagements in the US.

In the late 90’s when reengineering was engrained in businesses around the world Bob accepted a principal role at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers). He was part of the European Theatre leadership team and a member of the PwC Marketing Counsel. In addition he held partner-in-charge roles at Cigna and Cisco Systems.

Bob continued his Health and Life Sciences experiences at Accenture where he was a member of the Payer practice. There he worked with several of the large payer organizations selling and delivering case management, enrollment, patient management and outsourcing solutions. His responsibilities included partner-in-charge at Humana in Louisville, Kentucky where he worked until his daughter passed away from Hodgkin’s disease in 2007.

That tragic event came with an 8 year unwanted fellowship with all facets of healthcare. It also ignited the passion to be part of the solution in reinventing healthcare in the US.

Kim Chrissan
Managing Director, Silicon Valley

An accomplished relationship-centric executive with a passion for customers and innovative technologies, Kim Elise Chrissan has two decades of experience as a Silicon Valley-based strategy and marketing leader.

In her sixteen-year career at Hewlett-Packard, Kim held numerous positions in marketing, customer advocacy, strategy and planning, sales operations and quality. As the Education Practice Director for North America, she led marketing and business management for the region’s $1B K-12 and Higher Education segments.

Kim holds a BA from Loyola University in Maryland, and an MA from Stanford University. Since 2010, she has served on the Board of Directors for Ignited Education, a non-profit industry/education partnership that provides professional development opportunity for Bay Area teachers.

David Martino
Executive Creative Director

Nationally recognized for his creative achievements, David Martino brings 30+ years of creative direction experience to Dialog. His experience with big brands and results-oriented, award-wining national campaigns have earned him recognition from the Communication Arts Design Annual, PRINT’s Re­gional Design Annual, National Addys, and the New York Film Festival.

Known as a stringent brand builder, he is also a recognized and respected creative team builder and creative strategist. His experience leading creative teams includes Creative Director positions at advertising agencies, B-to-B marketing firms, and international consumer-based companies.

David was one of the founding members of T3 (offices in Austin, NYC, San Francisco and Atlanta), an Adweek top 100 agency with capitalized billings over $230 million. At Tocquigny, he was recruited to help build the firm into a full-service agency. In less than a year Tocquigny’s client roster had dou­bled – winning more awards than any other Austin agency.

In 2006 David started Martino Creative – a full-service agency specializing in strong identities through consistent packaging of corporate print collateral, interactive web work, direct marketing, and broadcast. And previous to join­ing Dialog, David served as Creative Director at Schlotzsky’s corporate, one of the fastest growing fast and casual restaurant chains, where he was instru­mental in building a strong strategic vision and consistency of the brand. Un­der his creative leadership Schlotzsky’s successfully reinvented their image, design strategy, and creative materials from print to digital to broadcast.

Mel Turner
Creative Director

For more than two decades, Mel Maldonado Turner has thrived at the intersection of graphic design and brand strategy. Her work is guided by the belief that meaningful innovation requires a deep understanding of the people who will use what she creates and the changing world that surrounds them.

She started her career at Foote, Cone & Belding – San Francisco, fulfilling a dream of working for an agency with global clients such as Apple, Levi Strauss & Co., and Pacific Bell. Mel also brings creative leadership from international, in-house agency experience with National Instruments as Executive Producer.

Mel’s practice has been notable for crossing media genres, drawing on references from a diverse range of cultural, historical, aesthetic, and technological sources. Her work encompasses brand identities, environmental design, multi-scale exhibitions, signage systems, print, motion and interactive graphics.

Mel holds a BA from the University of Texas at Austin and has served as a board member for the American Institute of Graphic Arts – Austin.
